GERMAN ART BOOKS / VISUAL CULTURE JOURNAL
Books, images and the culture around them.
German Art Books is an independent editorial journal exploring art books, photography, cinema, visual culture and the changing language of images.
EDITORIAL SCOPE
A publication shaped by looking closely.
We are interested in the physical and cultural life of images: how books sequence photographs, how films construct visual memory, how exhibition design changes the way art is read, and how games increasingly borrow from photography and cinema.
The site is not a catalogue. It is an editorial space for essays, visual histories and notes on the objects and ideas that shape contemporary image culture.
SECTIONS

Digital Culture
Games, interfaces and the new visual environments shaped by screens.
THE BOOK AS AN IMAGE SPACE
A sequence can change what a photograph means.
An art book is more than a container for images. Scale, paper, rhythm, blank space and sequence all affect how a photograph is read. That relationship between image and object is central to the way we approach publishing and visual culture.
Images travel between media.
A photographic composition may reappear in a film. A film may shape the visual language of a game. A book may preserve a temporary exhibition long after the gallery closes. German Art Books follows these connections across formats and decades.

The Art of Photobook Sequencing
Why the order of images can matter as much as the photographs themselves — and how rhythm, repetition and silence shape the reading of a photobook.
